Last December, Lamar Wilkerson suited up for Sam Houston State in a 97-71 defeat in Bloomington. This December, he will defeating teams at Assembly Hall from the opposite side of the spectrum.
With Wilkerson officially declaring his commitment to the cream and crimson, Darian DeVries and his (impressive) coaching staff have officially solidified their starting shooting guard slot for the 2025-2026 campaign. Wilkerson is fresh off of a major year, amassing dominant digits: 34.9 MPG | 20.5 PPG | 4.0 RPG | 2.1 APG VS 1.9 TOPG | 1.1 SPG | 0.3 BPG | 47.7% FG | 44.5% 3FG | 82.2% FT. His injection provides this rotation with a bonafide bucket-getter to slot next to presently projected starting table-setter Conor Enright (6.2 APG last season).
Adding Wilkerson’s sharpshooting services to fellow 2024-2025 flamethrowers Tucker DeVries (47.3% 3FG) and Reed Bailey (41.5% 3FG) should already yield fear in the hearts of the opposition. If/when Luke Goode’s medical hardship waiver is approved, that is yet another skilled marksmen (39.2% last SZN) in the mix. With another 8 roster spots to fill, it is safe to assume that even more shooting assistance should be en route. But even if no further snipers are brought aboard, this team should already be in store for massive strides in the shooting department after another underwhelming year in that particular area (32.1% collectively in 2025-2025).
