BRYSON TUCKER IS A BONAFIDE DIAPER DANDY
This year’s class of freshman is one of the most talented in recent memory. From Cooper Flagg to Ace Bailey to Dylan Harper to Liam McNeeley to VJ Edgecombe to Tre Johnson, the list of legitimate 2025 NBA lottery pick contenders is DEEP.
The stacked group of rookies is so loaded with star potential that one of it’s potential stars flew silently under the preseason hype radar.
Bryson Tucker was a 5-star wing coming out of the BMV, yet there was hardly any chatter (if any at all) connecting him to the elite tier of the incoming freshman class. All of the hype was tied to the previously noted names, and deservedly so. Those guys have been superb to start the year, and their numbers are a direct reflection of that sentiment. Tucker’s stats (8.0 PPG + 3.5 PG + 50%FG + 85.7% FT) may not be quite as eye-catching, but it is his incredibly smooth demeanor and flow on the floor which should be drawing attention.
With a solid 6’7”, 207 pound frame plus a 6’9” wingspan, the McDonald’s All-American already has the physical profile of a star swingman. When you combined his physical characteristics combined with some serious springs in his sneakers, it was never difficult to envision him becoming one of the Hoosiers’ top defenders right away. Factor in his magical midrange game and crafty finishing abilities around the rim, and some even wondered if he might be Indiana’s best overall player in year 1.
Perhaps anticipating him ascending to alpha status as a freshman was a bit lofty, but the results would have been much different without Tucker’s contributions in last night’s sluggish W over UNC Greensboro. He finished with 14 points and 3 rebounds on 5/9 shooting from the field (0/1 from 3) and 4/5 shooting from the charity stripe. Tucker was once again solid on the defensive end, and he made some big plays on both ends of the floor down the stretch to help secure the win over the Spartans.
You will not hear his name come up as loud in discussions regarding the top freshman in college basketball this season, but Bryson Tucker will continue to quietly sustain his status as someone who scouts should be keeping an eye on.
